To those like me who enjoy classical violin music today's cup of amazing violin talents is flooding over. Two of my many favorite violinists playing these days are Viviane Hagner and Julia Fischer. I'm sure most classical music fans have heard of at least the latter (though I would argue that one should know both). They are both from Munich (well, Hagner was born in Munich but is more of a Berliner), have amazing left hand, and seem quite fond of laughing...
Oh, yeah, and they are both very good at the piano, too. How sick is that?
Fischer actually double-bills as piano and violin virtuoso.
Hagner pretty much concentrates on the violin (her sister, Nicole, is the pianist in the family and they do concerts together a lot), though as you can see from the first video that she is no slouch at the keyboard either. Unlike the more acoustically rounded Fischer (she hardly ever makes odd sound with her bow), Hagner is a sort of 'strange/intriguing voice' on the violin... but the odd sound she makes is always elegantly odd and fitting in sensibly in her own way.

Hey Eyes! I know... nothing else to do but that, ay? :oD We are a lucky bunch. Not only are we enjoying the golden age of operatic mezzos, we seem to be in over-abundance of gorgeous and gifted female violinists as well (and a whole bunch of them seem to be Asian-German for some reason... Munich is like a female virtuoso violinist factory or something!).

i didn't know julia Fischer also plays the piano! i spotted her way back in 2006 on yt and back then you could hardly find any of her performances... and now, am enjoying her mozart on yt (though in front of pope, yikes :D), and saw tons of links to mendelssohn ...
and didnt' know about Viviane Hagner either, need to listen more :-)
(ps- since i actively disable ALL flash on my laptop, whenever i come here kept getting just blank screen so didn't discover these clips until now :D)
ps- were you able to get to the site with the full Vieuxtemp's violin concerto Smorgy? i kept getting (this time for real) a blank screen, even when all flash are enabled... this is the first time i heard this (bit) of the concerto, love it!

Way cool! :oD I first spotted Fischer from a Classic Arts Showcase clip (I think it was 'Summer' from Vivaldi's Four Seasons) around 2006, too. Seems she's gotten quite more popular since then. A splendid violinist!
Hagner is worth checking out indeed. She was here doing the Mendelssohn concert last winter and was splendid at it. :o)
Hmmph, I guess her clip of the Vieuxtemps isn't on ClassicLive menu anymore. I can still play it from the direct player ( http://www.classiclive.com/Concerts/2012/April/From-French-Mood-to-Bohemian-Mood/Player.aspx?full=1 ), though. :oD Any chance you can archive it? It's one of my favorite violin concertos... Very operatic! (But then the main theme was taken from a Gretry opera's aria)
Hagner released a CD of it, but I think this live performance is better. Not as clean in the florid bits, but very dramatically convincing (she really sings with that violin! That Strad is one temperamental instrument she plays with, I think... It seems prone to try to shriek a bit in top register). ;o)
