Another day in various parts of San Diego

Your smorginess is unfortunately being unexpectedly visited yet again by the imposing Mr. Flu. I would kick him out in the middle of our ongoing argument, but I'm too lazy to go out and pass him on to another victim at the moment.

I did go out for more than a bit a while ago, though. The camera was working alright (though the lens can really use some cleaning... I'm just too scared to touch it at the moment) so I put a bunch of little clips I shot through out the day together into this little home video. The day started in bustling Little Italy (where I laid claim on a beautiful Italian sausage and sauteed onion on hot bun at Pete's Quality Meat for lunch) before venturing off to Estudillo Museum at Historic Old Town San Diego... A bit of a neighborhood walk in North Park before returning to downtown area to catch pianist Kevin Cole jazzing up Copley Symphony Hall with Marvin Hamlisch and the San Diego Orchestra (the latter not being in the clip since no photography is allowed during performance).

The visual is on the boring side, to be sure, but at least there is musical siren Vesselina Kasarova singing a soulful rendition of Mozart's Abendempfindung (to the piano accompaniment by Charles Spencer) from her concert at Konzerthaus Wien in 2006 to listen to in the background. And while old Smorg can bore the pants off the unnaturally attired sloth on a regular basis, boring is not one of the large array of fitting descriptive adjectives applicable to La Kasarova!

Thank you so much for this 'ballade'
It looks like early summer with all the flowers. Hope you will feel better soon; Vesselina is nothing like a siren;)a mermaid certainly!

G'Day Smorgy!
Sorry to hear that you're feeling under the weather with the flu. Sounds like a rather bad case! I hope that you're better now and that your musical plans haven't been affected too much. Thanks for the piece of music! I haven't noticed it before.
Old Smorgy can never bore me. If you and I were to have a boring competition, I would win hands down. No contest.
Best regards

Anna

what a great video, it has everything, some clips are informative, other inspiring, some very funny (& weird, yeah!! what's up with the push-ups guy? is that University Ave.? only in San Diego, huh?) and some very beautiful, hey! i loved your lens flares too, specially that one almost at the end, at night with some lights, nice! your videos are great mister Smorg and well, the music...

i really hope you recover from that flu soon, i am almost amazed that i haven't catch it, and i really hope to keep it like that!

see you soon and keep on enjoying North Park and those cats!

hugs from cloudy Normal Heights

Hiya Yvette, Anna & Bere:
Thanks a bunch for stopping by and kind words! :o) This has turned out to be a particularly obnoxious flu indeed. I think I'm really finally kicking it now, though. :o) Should be good enough to drop in at Copley Hall for a concert tonight without drowning out the orchestra with my machine gun coughing. ;oP

Hey, I had never thought of VK as a mermaid before, Yvette. What an interesting thought! Mind, though, she sort of looks like one as Agrippina in Zurich (though more of the Ursula the giant octopus-ish witch type rather than the Ariel-Little-Mermaid type... Deliciously wicked!).

I'm glad you like the music, Anna! Mozart is somewhat neglected for his many wonderful Lieder, I think. And thanks for your confidence, too! If old Smorgy hasn't bored you to tears yet, it isn't for lack of trying! ;o)

That spontaneous push-ups dude was somewhere on 30th Ave, Bere. I think a block or two north of University. I was walking along looking for stray birds and cats to film when he just dropped to the ground and started huffing away. The Budweiser delivery guy was pretty startled by it and kept an eye on him until he was done. :oD

Hope March is going well your way, maties. Thanks a bunch again for stopping by! :oD

Bonjour Smorgy,

Your video is not boring at all. I especially like that circular movement you make with the camera.

As to lens cleaning, do you wish me to send you a clean cotton-made handkerchief?

Ms. Kasarova's singing is as always gorgeously splendid. La voce!

Hiya Georgy, Cease, Patty & JC!
Thanks a bunch for stopping by! Glad you enjoyed the clip, too. :o) I've been to the Bay Area a few times (and loved it) indeed. Not since '02, though. One of these days I'll make it up there and catch a few operas at the SF Opera!

Hope your weekend is going well. Happy Easter/Spring!

Smorgy :o)
