Happy Birthday Vesselina Kasarova

Vesselina Kasarova, the Bulgarian - Swiss operatic mezzo-soprano par excellente turns 47 years old today, though she hardly looks or sounds like it.

(Here she is, singing Ferrandini's Il pianto di Maria with Yordan Kamdzhalov and the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra in Helsinki, Finland earlier this year. Youtube clip posted by: LyriqueMGK )

So, честит рожден ден, Frau Kasarova! Best of wishes and many happy returns!

I've been lucky to hear Karasova in NYC a couple of times at Opera Orchestra of New York; the MET apparently has never heard of her. I have always loved her work. I think, actually, that singers with a solid technique and the sense not to yell their voices away in the wrong repertory are in many cases just hitting their best years around age 47.

Hi theinkbrain: I know. I can watch that clip all year long. ;)

Hi Will: How cool! :D she was gonna come to the Met for a Carmen or two next season, but I heard she's doing Rosenkavalier instead. ;) I'll definitely try to catch a show or two.

Thanks very much for stopping by. Hope your summer is going well!
